Origin of the Album
This was a transition time for me when creating this album. I finally had
my own personal computer and internet so I could continue my CD collection
projects (as well as other media projects) at home. I wanted to make a
straightforward Rock album, which was almost a compilation of classic rock
songs that I listened to through the classic rock stations of KSHE 95 in St. Louis and 100.5 WYMG in Springfield.
However, I was distracted at the time into producing a great rock album due to
my efforts in transferring all the iTunes songs from my office computer into my
home computer. At that time, I really did not have much of the album
covers I currently have, so a lot of time was spent creating them for DJJD
Volume 1 to this current album. Therefore, the quality I usually place
onto an album was not present, not even with the next album DJJD Volume
23.
Concept and Theme of the Album
Like I mentioned before, this was originally just a compilation of classic rock
songs that I heard on KSHE 95 and 100.5 WYMG. Please refer to the “Rock
Reconstruction” section for how this album was remastered.
Concept and the Album Cover
I
already made at least a couple rock album covers with guitars as the center of
attention, but I wanted to do something different. Since “hard rock” to
me symbolizes loudness and power, I decided to do a lightning motif.
Getting inspiration from the album cover of DJJD Volume 1 and
the album cover of Electric Light Orchestra’s “A New World Record”, I found a
great picture of flash lightning coming down upon a city night sky. From
there, I then added some cool custom-made speakers with pictures of
lightning.
Rock Reconstruction
I was never really satisfied with my original
creation of the three albums DJJD Volume 22, DJJD Volume 23,
and DJJD Volume 26. Most of the songs were just, in my
opinion, just thrown together without some form of coherency to them.
When it came time to remaster these albums, I decided to do a complete
reconstruction, reshuffling the songs among each other as well as adding or
removing songs, to make each album more coherent and organic in structure.
I reorganized the albums into three rock
styles or motifs:
·
DJJD Volume 22: Hard rock, progressive rock, with
some instrumental blues
·
DJJD Volume 23: Mainstream classic rock and pop, with
some blues
·
DJJD Volume 26: Glam rock, with some progressive rock
and mainstream rock
Here is how the remastered song listings were
